Looking at the Pick-a-Point Icon system in more detail, the multi-level map/CAD drawing-based operator workstation brings together CCTV system components in the control room environment, providing a dedicated video management solution for medium, large scale and multi-site CCTV deployments. Pick-a-Point Icon is able to replicate the simplicity of operation associated with a traditional analogue matrix by allowing control of multiple video servers without the need for extensive cabling. In practice, it offers the potential to build scalable video walls so that cameras from any number of monitored sites can be viewed simultaneously.
The latest variant of Pick-a-Point Icon, on show at ISC West 2010, features: enhanced alarm handling; a full audit capacity - with the logging of all actions chronologically through a filtered search - and a preset monitor layout viewing tool to support the instant saving and loading of multiple monitor layouts.
A new pre-configured view zone tool on the Pick-a-Point Icon enables operators to rapidly move groups of cameras to preset positions and display the associated multi-screen images by a single click. Another useful addition is a click-to-group facility where a rectangle can be drawn over specific cameras so the images can be viewed in an optimised multi-screen format. Crucially, the Pick-a-Point Icon's new incident search tool means that, from a user perspective, events of interest can be found extremely quickly from the display of thumbnail images between selected times.
Said John Bonsee, Senior Vice President, Business Development at AD Network Video: "From the start Pick-a-Point Icon has been designed to be intuitive for operators and builds on the success of earlier variants by adding new capabilities such as the potential to display HD CCTV. It continues to provide a familiar environment so greatly simplifying and speeding up image retrieval. Operators can simply select cameras using Pick a-Point Icon’s enhanced GUI (Graphical User Interface). Multiple map screens and highly detailed map images mean that it is possible to pick a camera on-screen using the map icons - a great benefit for the management of large systems from hundreds up to thousands of cameras.
"Unlike many digital matrix solutions that are dependent on a PC to record, view or playback video, Pick-a-Point Icon is a stand-alone hardware based workstation which eliminates the reliability and training issues associated with PC based systems."
Typical applications for Pick-a-Point Icon include: large scale residential schemes, city centre surveillance, transport hubs and educational establishments. Ultimately, Pick-a-Point Icon can be deployed, effectively, where there is a requirement to monitor and control a large number of sites, scattered across a wide geographical area, all from a single, centralised, control room.
